Pank will not release how he did those pipes. This has been discussed approximately 3,000 times here on the forum though, so do a search in the archives, and I'm sure you'll find some help. |

I'd imagine a similar effect can be achieved by having a gradient filled rectangle, duplicating the layer, use a bevel filter &/or chrome filter on the duplicated layer, and use a blending mode like screen or soft-light on it. To warp the "pipe" all you need to do is a little bit of warping with the shear filter, or use the wave filter a tad. A bit of masking to fine tune the image, and then I'd say it be a fairly close facsimile.

1. Make a rectangle 2. Use bevel and emboss layer style on it. be sure to leave one side with more light on it than the other. 3. Render that layer by creating a new layer, put the new empty layer underneath the rectangle layer. Then go to the rectangle layer and hit ctrl-e on your keyboard. 4. duplicate the rect layer. 5. use a chroming filter on the new duplicated layer, any "should" do, but you may want to use KPT to crhrome for a better effect. 6. On the layer you just chromed, which should be directly above the other rect. layer, use the "soft-light" blending mode on it. 7. hit ctrl-e again 8. You will now probably need to free transform and stretch the rectangle to make it real long. Make certain that it is also now verticle, not laying horizontal. extra step- I used a gaussian blurred small white line layer that was screen layer blended on the back/darker side of the rectangle to give it an extra reflection. Merge this onto the rect layer. 9. use the shear filter under the distort filters section to warp the rect to a curved shape. 10. Then duplicate that layer a bunch of times, free transform each one by rotating, and stretching them differently than the others, and possibly mask them a bit to melt them into the other curved tubes. 11. Your results can and will vary. |

Instead of just copying panks idea, why don't you use it as inspiration to come up with your own idea. I think you will feel better about the results.
