Help with Pen tool

I am trying to cut out a selection with my pen tool, I make cut out but it does not cut out what I wanted, instead a new layer is created when I try to make the cut out selection, What do I do so it cuts out what I want instead of making a new layer

i am just novice but been trying to recreate what you did.. are you sure your cutting and not pasting? generally when you paste you add a new layer!

now i went thru and did a simple outline using the pen tool..
then i did a right click and selected "selection"
at the point i can delete/cut the selection ... and no new layers are made ..

is this what your doing?

I just figured what I had to do, just had to change a setting on the pen tool
