I had a custom logo designed for me by a local tattooist. However, I'm having trouble doing what I want with it. I was hoping someone here could take a look at it and tell me if what I'm trying to do is even possible with photoshop. I have to believe it is.

Attached you'll find the logo.

I want to make the image white and have the background match whatever color it's up against.

I'm concerned since the logo, outline isn't solid.

Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks for taking the time.

hi,
well first at best I am just a halfway talented novice...lol... but here my ideas....
first of all what your referring to is making certain areas transparent.. and you generally want to save in gif or png format they support tranparency... in most cases gif will be chosen...

1. You don't mention if if you want the white within the body transparent or not ... so i'll give you both possiblities....
2. i always suggest make a duplicate layer.... leave untouch the orginal layer.... safety reasons...

now........
1. . if you want allll the white to be transparent.... uncheck the "contigious" box and use your magic eraser and click on the white....
everything white will turn into a checkerboard pattern, this means it transparent and at this point you just save the file as a gif...
note: in the save as windows make sure you check mark the "transparency" box ... and tha it...!!
2. now if you want to retain the white within the body and just delete the white outside, ... then you need to select and to outline the body .... you can use the pen tools or the magic lasso, or couple of other meathods to do this... then invert the selection.. then use the magic eraser... only the white outside of the body will become transparent.... then do your save as to gif...

well i hope that helps and gets you onto the right track

Ok, that makes some sense. I'll try that in a bit. Also, that would solve the transparency issue, but how to I make the black lines white; as in, make the outline of the man white?

hhi,
You mean make all the black into white....?
well there different ways to do that.....
after you have taken care of the transparency..... you can
1. use selective color.. from the dropdown change to black and the on the sliders put everything over to the left side.. that should change everything white...
2. another meathod is use the image>hue/saturation.. playing with the sliders you can change all the black to white or any color
3. you can also use levels to achieve the same results...

one thing to keep in mind with photo shop there always more than one way to do something.. and lot of times it dependent on the image which is best...
