Hi,
i am novice and i maybe misunderstanding what you need... since the apha channel is primarily a transparency channel.....

when you do a save as and save in gif ... in the secound window you get a "index color" window...several thing you can do there but one thing for sure for transparency (which is your alpha channel) and it there that you want to checkmark the transparency box ....

hi,
ok... now i am using cs1 so there maybe a little difference.. for there shouldn't be... but you can never tell...

ok....
1. first i am assuming that when the image is open in PS that where the areas that are transparent that you see a checkerboard patttern ...

2. I have found if your doing a save as from a gif file.... yes you don't get the windows i was talking about. (because it alrready indexed) .... in which case what i do to get that index window, is i go to the image>mode and select rgb .... then when you do a save as you should now get that index windows i mentioned....

3. now another way which should also work.... if it in your cs3 version is under file menu click "save for web" and make sure gif is selected and the transparency box is selected!!
