Custom warping text

Is it possible to custom warp text? I've been trying to but it doesn't work.

Hi,
In PS CS3, you can convert text layer to smart object and then custom-warp it. (The text stays editable)

In earlier versions, you have to either convert the text to vector shape (Layer > Type > Convert to Shape) or rasterize it (Layer > Rasterize > Type).
