Help saving Alpha Channels ??

Just upgraded to PS6 from 5.0 and I'm having trouble saving Alpha Channels in .png docs .
First , I'm making skins that use the Alpha Channel to make certian areas reflective . When I go to save my projects in .png format , the "save alpha channels" is greyed out and cannot be selected .
Anyone have any tips for doing this ?

i think you have the ctrl-click the layer to select it, then goto channels and save the alpha
