I am attempting to export some file that have alpha channels to a program that will only accept GIF format.
When i try to save the file in Photoshop it will only allow me to save it as a copy, unlike photoshop 7 and when i export the file the alpha channel does not export making the transparency solid white
Is there any way that you know to either save the picture in native GIF and not a copy or export the transparency?
I am kind of new to PS and i would appreciate the help

hi,
i am a novice but i do this all the time making transparent gif's with my ps cs which is very similar to ps7 . there a couple of ways i go about doing this.... depending on the image i opened...

if i am starting out with a jpg....
1. open file
2. i generally make sure i am in rg or indexed mode.. but generally i like rgb ....
3. make a duplicate layer
4. and work with just the duplicate layer....
5. then delete the color i don't want using your wand or eraser, etc..!!! you should see a duplicate pattern that will be your transpanency
6. once your done... still maintaining that duplicate hilighted... then do a "save as" choose gif for the format... click save... now in the next windows there some choices the very least make sure you have the transparency block checkmarked... and then ok and in the next window make another little choice and click ok and that it...
