Dear friends, I scanned (HP 7400c) an old photo that was printed on a "silk" textured paper and when I try to enlarge it in Photoshop, I get what I believe is called a moire effect. It is a pattern all over the image caused by the textured paper. Is there any way I can eliminate this in Photoshop, or must I photograph the image and work from that? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I found no answers in Photoshop's "Help". Thanks. Russ |

I've encountered this problem myself when scanning matte photos. Depending on how big this will be when finished, you might be able to gaussian blur it away without too much detail loss. Or duplicate the layer, blur it where its the worst (perhaps the sky) and erase the detailed parts (like a face) to reveal the unblurred layer below. Also try the filter median, and maybe even dust and scratches, both of which are under the noise catagory. Taking a photo of it won't help, unless it doesn't focus and might blur it away that way. |

hhi, my thoughts,,, ideally i think it would be better, if the lighting done correctly, to photograph the picture..... than try to photoshop it.... what i have been working with off and on, is using a FFT (fast fourie transform) filter !! i have had some good results and i have noticed other people using this meathod.... now there is a free fft filter avail... http://www.pages.drexel.edu/~avc25/archive.htm#FFT not the free it seems insert some noices.... but from what i understand the comercials fft filter's are better and don't insert any noise ... other meathos i have seen is take 2 scans... one normal and the other rotated 90 degress.. then align them... and maybe shift one or 2 pixals (optiona) that helps a lot |

Hi Jerry, I never heard of a FFT filter. I guess I have some homework to do! Thanks for your help! Russ |
