Hi there, I'm new to the forum. I use QuarkXpress and Freehand professionally but Photoshop is new to me and dearly hope you can help me with an annoying conundrum... I'm using CS3 on a Mac. I have an image that I want to clip out. When it is clipped I want the background to be transparent so that when I import it into a Quark document it only shows the clipped image and I can see the background of the Quark document through it. I've trawled so many tutorial sites and they are either contradictory or don't cover what I need. Help with this would be most appreciated - thanks in advance! Paul |

You didn't mention which version of QuarkXPress you're using. If you're using version 7, you don't have to do anything in Photoshop for QuarkXPress to recognize its transparency. Just import the native Photoshop file into your QuarkXPress document. Its transparency will show up just as if you had copied it into a new Photoshop file or imported it into an Adobe application. Or, you can save the file in TIFF format. QuarkXPress recognizes transparency in TIFF files. You may want to check out this resource: http://www.planetquark.com |

Yes, Quark 7. I must be doing something wrong when clipping the images then as the doc shows the checkerboard behind the image but when I import from tiff, eps or psd it shows as a white panel behind the image in Quark. I have since found that by selecting 'save for web' I can set the transparency and that seems to do that trick. But as this is for a print job I'm concerbed whether it'll be a good enough job. |
