Hello i have 200 thumbnails i saved as .jpg and they are all 4kb each in size. They are tiny though (only 100x100 pixels) Do you think I am able to bring down the file size with another file format? Or compressing it some way? If so, any advice would be great... I'd like to make it as fast to load as possible. Plus, i have so many files, is it possible to do them at once? regards, coogie |

Hello Coogie, I am almost positive that by using .gif files especially for a 100x100 image, you would be able to get the file size well under 4kb each. As to a method on re-saving all of them, I am not sure about that. Hopefully google can solve that problem or someone else here may know of a way! |

hi coogi, I am novice with photoshop cs still learning however...... to get the file size smaller... what yo can do is change the compression ratio ... for example go into your file>save for web> you see a box for compression and quality... if you set the compression box to low and set the quality box to about 10-15 you should be able to get below that 4k file size... now to do this using a batch proccessing command in phtoshop I don't know... however there are several graphic viewer/conversion programs that can do that...!! irfanview.com and xnview.com should be able to do that , i use gwspro (alchemymindworks.com it shareware) ... you need to go into the configuration and tell it what you want for compression ratio i generally set mine up for about 85% for jpegs .... and i just did a test on afew pictures resizing them to appx 100x100 and I was able to about 2k file size and that doing several at one time. |

but wouldn't using a google picture kinda suck. we have an acronym in one of my classes. GIGO-Garbage in Garbage out. If you're using a picture off the internet it usually isn't of really good quality...

hi coogie, changing the compression of the jpeg maybe allow you to get a smaller files size.... for example go into your PS>save for web and in the quality take it down to about 10-15 that should do it also make sure your ppi setting is about 72 .... using a higher ppi setting get you larger file sizes... now for a lot of utility type issues like that I use GWSpro from alchemymindworks does a lot of thing.. and one of them is batch processing... for example in this case.... changing the compression ratio to about 85% i was able to get jpg files sizes for 100x100 of about 2k your freeware like irfanview.com and xnview.com should be able to do the same thing... |
