Why can't I save as JPEG?

I'm sure this is a stupid question - or an easy answer that I'm missing.
Sometimes, when I edit a RAW or NEF photo in PS2, I try to save it as a JPG file. But the choices I am given are TIF, or PSD, or other large file type.
Other times, I am presented with a long list of file types, including JPG, JPEG and JPG2000.
What am I missing?:confused:

Hey man, I think if you go to Image > mode you will see options like RGB, CMYK, 8 Bit Channel etc...

Well if you for example have selected Index or 16bit channel you will not get as many options, if you select RGB and 8 Channel you always get the JPEG option - i am no expert by any means and don't know why it happens, but thats my solution
