Need Help.

I am just beginning to use photoshop and I am stuck.

I am trying to get two images in one projest like this:

But when I try I get this:

I am following these steps.

file > new > 500 pixels by 100 > then to the paintbucket and fill with colour > then file > open > browse your pic then open

just strat hitting the "f" key..... stop when you get what you want.

there's another set of buttons under the top right X button.. that controls the windows inside photoshop
