hi I have a logo (in a layer with a drop shadow) and I want to add an 25% opacity marquee oval over the top half. But I want to keep the background transparent and so don't want the marquee to show off the edges of the logo. Anyone know how to do this? cheers |

You should be able to do this by creating a Clipping Mask. 1. Make sure the 'marquee' layer is directly above the 'logo' layer. 2. Hold down ALT (Option if you have a mac) 3. Position your cursor inside the Layers palette, right on the line between the names of the 'marquee' and 'logo' layers. You'll see the cursor change to two intersecting circles with a left-pointing arrow. When you see this cursor, click the mouse (still holding down ALT/Option. There you go, the 'marquee' layer is now clipped to the 'logo' layer. If ever you need to 'un-clip' the layer, just do the same thing again with ALT/Option + click. |
