Hi I sometimes put a pic embedded in my e mail I decided that about 640 or 680 is best. I ve realized that the size , ie the width of the photo governs the width of the text I don t want the reader to have to use the slide bar to read every line so I try to keep my photos below 680 width. OK, I went to resize a pic in image ready I resized it to 660 I put it in the e mail but the writing was much too wide I went back to the original hotmail I hilighted to the right of the photo it was as if it had a ghost dimension of 1000 even though visibly it was 660 this extra ghost width showed up as blue anyway, that was governing the text. I went to photoshop adobe and resised in there again I put it into th e e mail this time everything was ok I notice that a pic saved in image ready is save optimized as ( at least I have to do that to get a jpeg ) whereas in adobe its just save as and you get a jpeg image Hope this does nt sound like so much jibberish thanks for any comment |

The easiest way to do it is to use "Save for web..." in Photoshop. It is actually using part of Imageready to save it, but it allows you to save as JPEG/PNG/GIF etc without having to start imageready. The Save As... command in photoshop may produce a JPEG, but it will not be optimized very well and will have a much larger file size than if you used Save for Web.

thanks for the tip but it does nt explain why, when I cropped the pic in image ready to 680 and then put in an e mail using hot mail the pic was actually in the e mail a lot wider than that when I used the pointer to highlight I could see a ghost part of the image the extra width was governing the text I pasted in so anyone reading the e mail would have to use the slider to read each line I like to use 680 width as I find that appears well and fits the average comp screen. anyway when I cropped using adobe photoshop then everything was ok I got a jpeg image that was in the e mail at exactly 680 width I ll have to remember that in future ! |

When you resized, did you change the "pixels per inch" value? make sure it's set to 72, the monitor standard.

No, I ve never touched anything like that I just put the pic into image ready and changed the image width. Putting the image into hotmail resized to 680 or whatever and having other images below it also at 690 width I noticed, when pressing with the pointer, an extra (ghost ) width that was nt on the other pics this width seems to govern the text which then becomes too wide for the screen Anyway I ll just have to remember to resize in adobe that seems to chop the images down to size without any ghost remnant to mess things up ! Maybe e mail like hotmail will develope in the future and allow you to set outgoing type to a fixed width and get better control over things Its all a bit hit and miss at present |
