Help With An Effect

What you need to do is great a new fill or adjustment layer. That is located on the bottom of the layer pallet (first image).

Then set saturation to -100 to make the image black and white.

Now select the gradient took (second image) and have it select on black and white.

Now make a gradient on the fill mask (just a white box right now) and make it have black on the bottom (third image)
