when an image is brought up into ps6, it's layer (layer 0) is automatically locked. ive been have big problems with my comp lately, and if i double click on the layer to unlock it, my comp freezes up and i have to restart. my question is, is there any keyboard command or setup preference command that will allow me to unlock the layer on just bring the image up already unlocked? id prefer just to be able to bring the image up already unlocked. is there a way to do that? im desperate for help!

Looking for a work around isn't going to fix your problem... If you haven't downloaded and installed the 6.01 patch, do so...I remember seeing something very similar come across the Adobe forums a while back and it was suggested that it was a fixed bug in the .01 version. If you have downloaed and installed it and are still having the problem try trashing the Photoshop "prefs" file... with photoshop NOT running search your computer for "Adobe Photoshop 6 Prefs.psp" and move it to the recycle bin. (photoshop will make a new one apon re-launching it) |

... there is a keyboard workaround. With your locked background layer selected, type Ctrl-J to get a duplicate layer. Except now, you will get the lock checkboxes where you can gleefully disable the lock layer (3rd check box). Trash your original layer, and you can now edit to your heart's content. ;) hope this helps. |
