Everytime I go to add text to my project, it is overly large. Even if it is on 0.5, it appears as if it was size 60. I've restarted my computer and photoshop, uploaded my project again, opened other jpegs and psds, but it still continues.
Any ideas how to stop this/what causes it.

What is the resolution of the image you are placing the text in?
