Collage / background image trick??

Is there any tutorial on how to do that heavy collage where when you look back at it the entire thing, it creates an image in itself.. Almost like its some background image or something.

There's software to do that I'm pretty sure, not sure what it is though.

I think I actually have an old shareware PS plugin that does that... when I get home I'll look around.
