how do you make the entire image black and white except for a selected area???

There are a few ways to do this, here's one of the simplest. 1 Start with a colour image 2 Duplicate the background layer 3 Make the duplicated layer b + w (many ways to do this also, with varying quality, one of the quickest is Image>Adjustments>Desaturate) 4 Add a layer mask to the duplicated layer 5 Use a brush to paint in black on the layer mask in the areas where you want the colour to appear. (If you paint in too much colour, change the brush colour to white and this will paint the grayscale back in) |
