how do i get my type to be black and white (where it needs to be), so it can be read? for example, if a page was half white and half black, how would i type a word and get it to reverse where need be? Thank you!

One way: Create a new layer above your black and white layer. Type your word on the new layer using the horizontal or vertical type mask tool. (It's hidden behind the type tool). Click Enter to turn your text to a selection. Use the paintbucket tool to fill each letter with either black or white, depending on which colour it will overlay. Once the letters are filled, you can use the move tool to position the text.

another way (if indeed you are typing over and black/white background) type your text in white and change its blend mode to "difference" this will take away being constrained to having to change full letters... ie you can have a single letter that is half black, half white |

Lion of Judah. Nice one, your method is quicker and more elegant and flexible. As I've said elsewhere, you never stop learning... thanks for the tip
