Cutting out faces leaving a hole.

I've been through loads of tutorials none of which tell me how to do this. I want to cut out a face leaving a hole. Then, I want to drag whats left and drop it over another face. I've tried using the pen tool but I cant seem to discard the face to leave the hole. This is my biggest problem. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Steve: you can use the pen tool....after you have created your shape, where your 'layers' palette is, there is a 'paths' tab...click on that then click the 3rd icon from the left ('load path as a selection'). then click back on the layers tab...now your shape should be selected and you can just drag it outta there! you could also use the marqee tools or the lasso tools to make your selection, but once it's selected, you can cut it right out!
