hi!

i installed the ps 6.0 and everything is fine.

only one problem:

I work with really small pictures and every action takes several seconds to be done... (like: new layer, create a selection aso...)

what´s the problem?

I have a 1.3 gh cpu with 256 ddram, so this can´t be the problem.
the memory for ps is set to 50%.
any ideas?

thx in advance!
steffen.

A question or 12 come to mind.

1) what OS are you running?

2) have you downloaded the 6.01 patch and installed it? (if not, do so)

3) How many other applications are running?

4) is photoshop just as slow apon a fresh re-boot with NOTHING else running?

5) what anti virus software are you running and is it set to scan ALL files? (mcafee will scan for every file associated with every function attempted in PS) IF yes, set it to scan only "program files" and that will help alot.

Now this won't hurt to try and might help, but I would lean toward it being something associated with my 5 questions.

first make sure PS is not running and try tossing your "prefs" file in the trash/recycle bin and re-launch PS (it will create a new "prefs" file.)

C\Windows\application data\adobe\photoshop\6.0\Adobe Photoshop 6 Prefs.psp

in version 5.x it was located in the photoshop folder

IF that doesn't help file the photoshop ini file and trash it temporarily just to see if it is causing the slowdown. (PS will create a new ini file too)

I run two programs in the background to solve my slowdown problems. "StartStop" lets me choose what, if anything, gets loaded on startup. And "OptiX" which lets me manually unload things from RAM or let it automatically mannage RAM. I also have 256 megs of SDRAM and I'm running a slow as heck 400 Mhz. I suggest getting these (or similar) programs. They help a lot in getting the most out of your system. And the Photoshop 6.0.1 patch is WAY better at managing system resources too. GET IT.

Hope this helps
