Hello! I'm really new to Photoshop and have the task of figuring out how to create a studio-like background with spotlights for product pictures. I'm not at all sure this is possible, although it seems like anything is possible with Photoshop. Could anyone of you who have some experience with Photoshop help me out please? Take a look at the picture at this link http://www.charactersinc.com/everything/assets/product_images/curious%20george/CGPL_38024_c.jpg I don't know how the background was created. Most likely with studio lighting. My question is, could I recreate this sort of background? If yes, how? I've tried everything from Lighting Effects to Gradients and I just can't do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Samson Agoniste |

Well there is no absolute easy way to do it, but it is possible with a little brushing, distorting, opacity, blurring, and gradients. http://www.mattstanzel.com/tps_monkeyshadows.jpg Now forgive me, but that was just a quick example. With a little time and patience, you should be able to duplicate that. I will also give you the .psd so that you can disassemble my disaster: http://www.mattstanzel.com/tps_monkeyshadows.psd If you have questions regarding any specific aspect, please reply here, and I'll help you from there, but if you look at mine layer by layer, you'll be able to see where I used gradients, and where I brushed on a little shadow. For example, in the upper-left corner, I simply took pure black, brushed on a little bit in the approxmate shape I wanted, then I 'gaussian blurred' it at about 20 pixels, then I set the layer opacity to 35-40% |

Mattboy, you rock, I thought at first your link was my original photo! I'm looking at your psd and wow, this is really awesome... thanks, man! It would have taken me about 5 years to do this. I'm going to try to figure out if I can do this myself with other products, and I'm sure I'll have questions. Just wanted to say thanks!!! Samson |
