Im trying to use the pen tool to create lines and shapes but I have the problem that the shape gets filled by default with the selected colour everytime I use it. Ive looked everywhere for a way of solving this properly but I can't figure it out. Im using CS2 which I donwloaded the trial version of. I don't remember altering any settings but never the less always fills the shapes where as the tutorials show otherwise indicating to me that something has been switched on. Ideally I want to be able to create a curve with a thinkness of my choice too, how do I go about altering it so it automatically lays down a line with a set thickness in pixels. Help would be appreciated. Scott |

This is probably happening because you are using the pen tool straight onto the canvas which causes Photoshop to create a shape rather than a path. To create a path or shape which doesn't automatically fill with a colour, open the "layers" window (push F7), and click the tab marked "paths", then create a new path with the new path icon in the bottom right of the window and draw on the canvas using the pen tool, this will create a line/ shape which won't fill until you tell it to by right clicking on the canvas and bringing up the list of path options. |
