black and white with spot color

I have a photo that i would like to me in black and white with a few objects remaining in their original color. Any ideas on how to do this the "right way" without simply using the brush?:D

Well the easiest way would probably be to us the lasso tool and just select the areas that you want to stay color... then select the inverse and desaturate it.
