Photoshop file convert to PS6

I have a PSD file that is not opening in PS6, the version I have installed. I suspect it's due to the fact that this PSD was generated by a newer photoshop version that is not compatible with PS6

2 questions:

1- is it possible to convert a PSD file generated by a newer PS version to PS6?

2- is it possible to detect which PS version was used to generate a PSD?

Have you tried other PS6 .PSD's to make sure it's not corrupted? I'm not sure about the bottom questions. But if I had to guess, they would be no. Unless someone made a specific .EXE for those purposes. Don't know of any.
