Hi, I'm converting images for print. I converted my raw RGB JPG files to CMYK tiff files. The converted pictures look fine in photoshop and windows picture viewer. When I import them in Quark my pictures colors show up very distorted. I'm not a pro at using Quark so any help would be great. |

that's just what quark does, as retarded as that is. get a proof from your printer to doublecheck but you should be fine. chris |

Like Fig said, it's a Quark thing. InDesign does a fantastic job of displaying previews on the screen. Who knows why Quark continually ignores this important feature?

It just seems like every CMYK image I import to Quark the colors are really bad. I did a test print on out office printer and the picture looks bad. I open up the same picture in phototshop it look fine. I was told to make these picture 300DPI and CMYK by our printer. I hope its just a quark thing I dont want to send this project off and have it come back messed up. I will have to use Indesign for future projects.

yup, every CMYK image in quark does look bad. stupid huh? your office printer isn't cmyk so you'll get some funky colors, i know it looks horrible but it's nothing to worry about. even so make sure you get a proof from your printer, you always should anyway. and yeah, i greatly prefer indesign chris |

thanks That takes some of the stress off. I talked to my boss about it and we are going to go over to the printers and to do a color check. I also talked her into buying Indesign ;) Thanks to everyone that replied. rock on CMYK style |

Your pictures shouldn't have 'gone' anywhere. It's just that Quark can't display them due to lack of ram. Shut down open programs, stop unneccesary services, or install more memory - or use a computer better suited to graphics work. From the sound of it, your work has not been damaged in any way. Forgive me for a post on a topic I'm not knowledgable about - I've never used Quark. But the problem seems to be pretty basic, from the sound of it. |
