Anyone know how to create a slash/rip effect?

Hey everyone,

Does anyone out there know where I can find a tutorial for creating like a slash or ripping effect? I am creating a graphic where I want part of the graphic to look as it is peeling away after it was slashed.

Its a small photo, but I am looking to create something to that effect.
