Hello, I would like being by saying I am extremely new to Photoshop 7, which I just got. I have a business and have recently been interested in creating a webpage which will require me to create logos, buttons, banners, etc... for my webpage. If someone would help take me under their wing and guide through a few processes I would appreciate it! The first problem I am having is making the background/canvas of my images to be translucent when they appear on my webpage. I know this will probably sound stupid to most, however, it is where I would like to begin. There are lots of tutorials out there for special effects, etc, however, I just need some simple help to start. I would like to make my logo and business info to appear at the top of my page and blend in with the background. Any help would be great, thanks in advance, I look forward to starting out in photshop with your help!! justin |

...Extremely new... ok then I'll expalin everything :D One of the most important windows is the layer-window (for me only the tools or more important). In the layer window u can make different layers: one for the background, one for the logo, the business,... The background must be at the bottom. To make the backgorund translucent u just click the background-layer and then lower the opaticy in the left-upper-corner of ur layer-window. But I realy wonder why u want a translucent background : there should be nothing behind ur background that can shine trough!!! (Else it wouldn't be ur background ;) ). Grtz, Doody. |

The part of the image in PS that is transparent looks like a grey and white checkerboard. In order to have part be transparent (I assume you mean transparent, not translucent), you need to 'Save for Web' in the File menu, and then save as a .GIF. Make sure the transparency box is check-marked.

Thank you both very much for your responses. I did mean transparent. Could you walk me through how to set my image to have a transparent background. My problem is my whole logo has a white box around it and I just want that part to be transparent. I can provide an example if you wish. Thanks, I look forward to your response!

Can you not just delete the background layer so that you only have the layer for the picture? -smitters |

ok this is getting frusterating....I tried the magic wand: I clicked on the background area with this tool, and pressed delete, and it turned it black, so I thought this did the trick, however, when I view this image on the page I am developing, it shows a black bordered blackground around my image the size of the canvas.... I then right clicked on the layer "background" and selected do not show this layer and re saved and tried to view image again, and now the background was white, thats all that changed??? Can someone please guide me to get rid of this...I can provide the image through email, no wy to uplink it to a site.... |

I suppose that border was already there, but became better visible now. U can use the same trick as before: select the black now instead of the white (when the border is thin u might want to zoom in first). But I think in this case it might be easier to gum the border away... It's rather obvious that when u make ur background transparant (invisible) it does not show in ur image. Because the default Internet Explorer background is white , it shows white. When u would post the image here (and if u saved right) the background would be red (because the background over here is red). I don't realy understand what do u mean with a transparant background... (If u want to see ur desktop or the wall behind ur screen: I don't think it will work ;) ) Edit: About the question u asked while I was typing this:I don't know...; But eh, I'm still curious what u transparant background is, when it is for the background of a site... |
