Tutorials Wanted

this is mainly for the creators of the site(hope they read these forums) but maybe some of you could also help.

i'm new to photshop and i was wondering if you could put up a few tutorials or just tell me on here how to make the effects. the first one is the background of this page, the red cross pattern in the very back. the second is the effect used to make the buttons on here have that metallic look.

And about that cross-patern : I think it's rather easy : u must first make a new small document, draw one cross and the right background and pick "Edit--> Define Pattern". To use the pattern in another (larger) file just pick edit--> fill and pick ur pattern there. I'm not gonna try the button...

These buttons appear to be simply 2-tone patterns. Half light, half dark, and one row of a transitional color pixels.
