i reckon the basic idea is to have your mountain image as the base layer. then you drag the portait shots to layers over the top. once you've got them in the right position, if you click on the 'masking layer' icon on the layers palette you can start blending the images together. When you click on the masking icon for a portrait's layer, you should see the background and foreground colours on the tools palette go to black and white respectively. using a brush you'll find that wherever you paint the transparency of your portrait changes. If you get too much transparency, just change from black to white or vice versa and paint back over. Finally, the mountain shows through the faces a little to give the impression that they are carved out of the rock. i would just do this by lowering the opacity of each portrait's layer until it looks right. If that all sounds like mumbo jumbo, i learnt the basic tricks for this from www.photoshopcafe.com/tutorials There's a brilliant supertutorial on web design which features these techniques. Hope this has helped. |
