how do I have 1 image gradually fade into another? i know how to adjust transparency, but that adjusts the entire image and not just a portion of it (from my limited understanding of the program).

thanks

Well a very easy way to do it, but it might not be the best way is to use the rectangular marquee tool and make the square where you want your 2 images to fade in to each other.
... you have to have the images on 2 different layers and then you make the square on the second layer and press Ctrl + Alt + D and put the feather to around 20, okey depends how much you want it to blend... but you should get the idea from that.

I'm sorry, I didn't understand a word 3jorn juat said. But is is midnight and I've had a long day, it may be perfectly understandable, and I'm out of it.

My suggestion is to try this Tutorial:

http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/layermask/layermask.htm

It seems to cover the basice of layer masking pretty well, and I personally feel that layer masking is the best way to blend multiple images together.

I hope this helps in some small way.

(P.S. 3jorn, I wasn't trying to be rude, I'm just very tired and not thinking straight.)

I've done this before, so I'll just write a quick guide how to do it. I used a simillar masking method the tutorial CryptoManiac used, but explained much easier.
• Make a new document with 3 layers, background, picture 1 and picture 2.The Background as the bottom layer, and "Picture 2" on top.
 • Picture 2 is the one I want to fade into picture 1, so I position it until it overlaps "Picture 1" a little
 • Then I select "Picture 2" and press Q(Enter Quick Mask)
 • Choose the gradient tool, forground to transparancy and pull it over the part you want to become transparent on "Picture 2".
 • Then I press the Q (Exit Quick Mask) button again and it will leave a selection.
 • Copy that selection(Ctrl+C), and Paste it in(Ctrl+V).
 • The copy will now lay as the top layer, and you just have to delete or disable the visibility on Picture 2 (click the eye on the Picture 2 layer in the layers palette), Then u'll se that the top layer(Picture 2 copy) will have a part transparent.
 •
I hope u'll get it to work
