OK, you guys created a monster...er Pank did. I was happy to pay Pank to do what I am trying to do but he's too busy so I guess I have to come here to learn how to do this stuff as long as you all are willing to help me. So far you've been great. Bear with me if these questions are about as basic as they can get but it's the reality of the situation: First what I am trying to do is change the colors of some of the graphics in my vBulletin skin that I purchased from Pank. Then save them and replace them in the skin to get the colors changed. So, I have all the native PhotoShop files and was able to figure out how to fix the colors (with Mattboy's help, of course)...but here are some additional questions: In the PS file there are several graphics: I'm trying to deal with one at a time but how do I change one, like the top bar, and then save it so I can slice it up without saving all the rest of the stuff in that PS file (and have it be the exact right size)? Secondly...the layer palette is confusing me: When I click and hold on one layer and move the mouse just a little I see a blue color. What if I just wanted to change that to black? I have no idea how to do that. As I mentioned the other day, obviously Pank and most of you guys are very proficient with PS..and know all the right ways to do stuff. I don't. If I could change that to black wouldn't that be easier than using the hue/saturation thing Mattboy told me about. Sorry to be such a pain in the butt but I have to try and learn somehow. The manual is useless when it gets to things others have made! Thanks, in advance. ~CB PS...sigh...it would have been so much easier if Pank would have customised this for me! :p |

The answer on your first question seems to be the crop tool, if I understand correctly. It looks like the one pointed on this image: http://www.keithscreations.net/Tutorial%20Stuff/background%20eraser/crop%20tool.jpg Using that, drag a square around the part you want to use and hit enter. Second question I did not understand. |

Second question I did not understand. [/QUOTE]Well I thought of cropping it but that won't help I don't think. I need the image and only the image without any background so I can save as a new .gif and substitute it for the image that is there already. Unless it's exact I don't think that will work. When I create an image in PS I usually make it the exact size I want and it's it's own file. Sorry I don't get it. Damn that Pank anyway! :p The other part of my question was relating to how the original PS files were created. In the layer palette there seems to be a color (blue) selected in the background so that all the images have this blue color to which screens or opacity is rendered. I don't know how this is done in PS or the reasdon bechind it. ~ CB |

Then crop and save as gif. Second question: I am still not sure what you mean. The only way a color can be changed through the layer palette is when there is an adjustment layer and I don't think that is the case. I don't know what Mattboy told you, but I'm sure it has something to do with hue/saturation and yes, that would be the easiest solution. |

1. When you go to Save for Web, select the slice you want, hit Save. In the save dialog, the bottom-most pull-down menu that's labeled "Slices", select "Selected Slices." 2. Unless we take a peek at the PSD file (which we can't) or you can provide screenshots of this blue you're talking about, I can't figure out what you're asking. Click and hold on one layer .. you mean click and hold a layer in the layer palette or in the actual work window? |

I just turned everything else off and cropped it as close as possible. What screwed me up is that I forgot to turn of the background so I didn't have the transparent background. Now I do and it looks like it will work. Thanks for the tip about saving the slices! #2... Yeah I'm losing myself :p I'll just use the hue/saturation procedure and be done with it! Thanks again guys. I'm sure I wil lbe back. Don't put me on your ignore list! Bwahahaha. :D |
