Okie dok, Advanced or not advanced, ahh, you decide. So, I have a .PSD file I want to Re-save Over the existing one already on the hard-drive, but everytime I save the file it says the file is "Locked, unlock it in Properties, via Internet Explorer options". Well, none of the layers in the file are locked. I tried the settings on my computer and didn't find any option that related to the error. The question is, What type of setting in Internet Explorer might have caused this, and How do I fix it? After that, I tried saving a Different file I was working on, and it saved- with no Error-message. Is it a security setting? But, if so- why does this problem only occur with This file and not others? if anybody knows of a solution, thank you. Thanks again, Adrian |

Find the file with Windows Explorer or through My Computer or whatever, right click on it, and then go to Properties. Uncheck the "Read Only" checkbox at the bottom. You likely copied the file from a CD or something, or it became locked some other way.

Okay, I've done this Plus I've sifted through possible 'accidental' changes I could have made in Internet Options in Explorer itself. But, I've found nothing that really helps this problem. I first found, when I tried unlocking the file, that the folder it was in was unspecified as to whether it was Read-Only or Archive, then I found the folders Housing it to be Unspecified also. I corrected this equation, and Still. My next bet seems to be searching for the root of the problem in my Properties thing, where I might have checked a possible security breach for some kind of prohibition for an action or something. Regardless, I need to get to the bottom of this. I'll eventually need to do this again and it will not be cool. It seems to only happen when I save over That file. Maybe, to rectify it immediately I could just delete that file and then just save the Changed file seperately. Still, I'd like to be able to know what's causing the lock in the file, if it is maybe externally. it seems there is an error that happens regardless of whether ive Archived the file or not. ..... |

It shouldn't have anything at all to do with Internet Explorer, unless you have some virus or spyware or something that came through it. Every time I run into an error like that I just uncheck read only for that file and its parent directories and it works fine. Don't know what else it could be.

I'll try that again, because I'm pretty sure that's the big part of the problem. I might have overlooked something, but yeah- I definetly doubt too that it has anything related to Internet Explorer, because it's not related to a security feature, instead it's a common file error. I think I stepped somewhere, and I'm trying to retraced the steps or something. I'll fix it one way or another. |
