How to do this "knock-out effect" ??

Wath a nice forum ! i hope someone could tech me how to do
this effect, link or showing...

I wont a "hole" in the paper, not burn but riped..

First, make sure that the pice of paper is on its own layer.
Add a drop shadow layer style, add a layer mask, and start painting in black on your layer mask.
