Hello,

I'm a photographer, and I do a lot of editing in Photoshop.

One time my computer's OS crashed, and it's an emergency to finish my work within the morning, so I took my harddisk and went outside to look for public computers.

Since my file is copyrighted and private, I was afraid that my PS files we're copied over the network and viewed after I left the computer shop. :(

Is there any options or plugins that we can use, to set and open the PS file in the photoshop program with password protection [or encryption]?

So we can, atleast, have confidence when bringing these files anywhere...
Thanks, I hope there's such feature in PS..

ok, after asking some questions to other photoshop sites.. I think I now know the answer..

Just save it as PDF file. from its setup, there's a security option (password) that you can set.

New question, am I risking the quality of the image if I save that as PDF format?
Is there any degradation in the image at all?

There're two option for saving JPG and ZIP

Please help me, thanks..

I would recommed using winzip or winrar to compress your files. They offer password protection.

hi heath, thanks for the recommendation,
but the problem on using winzip and winrar is after you extracted the file,
it can be unknowingly open again, for viewing by unauthorized people, on the network.

what i found out is, you can save your PSD file as PDF (with password) within photoshop program (no third-party software needed) . directly open and save by PS itself.

i'm using PC/MS-Windows/PS CS
1. on "File Menu" >
2. choose "Save As..." menu (to open dialog box) >
3. on Save As dialog box -> click Format (Drop-Down menu) >
4. choose "PhotoshopPDF (*.PDF, *.PDP) format"
5. PDF Option dialog box will appear
6. select any of the 2 Encoding option (ZIP, JPEG)
7. lastly CHECK the chkbox -> "PDF Security" to activate "Security Settings" button.

and from the Security Settings button, you can set 2 optional security parameters.
1. Password required to Open Document
2. Password required to Change Permission and Passwords
note: you can also set the compatibility downto Acrobat ver 3.x

But i'm not sure, if i save it to PDF format..
will my image degrade its quality? due to encoding options (JPEG, ZIP option)

hmmm (thinking)...
