I am very new to Adobe photoshop, and would like to start using it to put photos on my sports website www.elitepreps.com Here is a link to a photo that I would very much like to make some adjustments on with Photoshop. http://www.elitepreps.com/openpictures/GASdenton.jpg 1 - I want to use this picture as it appears at 35%. Is it possible to show it at 35%, then crop the desired section, and then save that cropped section at that exact size under a completely new file name? 2 - The Adobe crop tool does not seem to allow you to give it a preset number. How can I make sure that it cuts pictures at exactly 175 pix x 225 pix? 3 - Which format looks best for internet photos....... PNG, jpeg, GIF, or something else? Thanks, TC |

Don't use the crop tool. Instead use the Rectangular Marquee. With the marquee tool selected, you can then change the options for the tool to FIXED SIZE and input 175px X 225px (you'll find these option along the top bar of the photoshop window) Then click on your image and position the rectangular selection. then goto IMAGE / CROP That's it. Then you can save it however you like. JPG is probably the best choice for web intended graphics (depending on the content). You might want to use SAVE FOR WEB... when you save the JPG. |

You can define the crop size as you can for a selection. |
You can define the crop size as you can for a selection.
I would assume you can....but how? Where? The width and height in the Crop Tool options don't do it. That just gives you an aspect ratio. I guess you could use the info palette to try to size it to the size you want. |

Actually using fixed size with the rectangular marquee, might cause some problems, specificly that it is not flexible. but if you use the crop tool and set it to the right aspect ratio with the exact number of pixels (175 px X 225 px) the crop tool will resample the image down to that size for you, instead of just saving the information inside of a marquee that size in your original document. Am I making any sense? Say for example you want to crop a Hi-Res photo for the internet: If you use "Fixed Size" on the marquee tool, then you may end up with only the eye of the person in the picture. But, if you use the crop tool you can retain all the information and lower the resolution at the same time. I personally like Jpeg. Gifs have their place, but I don't think that usually is in pictures of people. I am not too fond of Png, I think it is a low rent highly compressed version of the Jpeg, and I don't like compression (but of course it is a necessity on the internet). |

You speak of resampling as if it's a good thing. ??? Resampling blows. You don't ever want to resample when you don't have to.
Say for example you want to crop a Hi-Res photo for the internet: If you use "Fixed Size" on the marquee tool, then you may end up with only the eye of the person in the picture.
 Come on now. One would have to be literally brain dead for this to be a problem. LOL. |
