Could someone help me...I am trying to create a CD cover and the back side is one solid color with the visual of a page turning down. How can I do this. I have been working with the 3D transformation, but not sure if this is the best way.

Also, the only way I can choose Filter - 3D Trans is when I am in Mask. At home I can choose it under a regular layer. Does anyone know why this is happening. I get the cone the way I want it, but when I hit OK it is in mask and not a solid cone.

rather advanced way, but I think maybe the only way in photoshop.

Not sure about your other problem, but someone else may know what to do.

All you gotta do is make a selection and then flip it and warp it a little with Liquify and that's it.

This will definitely help. I did not realize how hard it was and would have never figured it out on my own. Thanks.

From an email lkgaynor said, "Could you explain what I need to do step by step".

I hope you don't mind me quoting your email, but the thing is, I don't do private instruction. If I am going to put together a "how to" then it'll be posted in public where hopefully more than one person will be able to get some good out of it. Know what I mean? Anyways, view the following image and read the corresponding steps. If you have further question just ask.

  • 1.
  • This is what I'm starting with to represent our sheet of paper.

  • 2.
  • Here I just selected a corner of the layer and did
LAYER / NEW / LAYER via CUT

  • 3.
  • Now I do a FREE TRANSFORM on our new triangular layer
    right-click and choose
    FILP HORIZONTAL
    then
    FLIP VERTICAL
then if needed move the piece into position so it's aligned with diaginal cut of the lower piece.

  • 4.
  • Here I selected our triangle piece of paper and did
    EDIT / FILL
and filled it with 80% white. This makes it look as if we're seeing the backside of the paper and not the front.
Then, with the same layer targeted, I went to
    FILTER / LIQUIFY
In the Liquify tool I just slightly warped the piece by pushing the center downwards. Also I pushed the left upper corner towards the right for a slight curling effect.

  • 5.
  • Now coming out of Liquify, I choose a soft edged large brush with black as my color. Set opacity to very low, about 8% and then run the brush up and down the left and right edges of the triangle piece. This starts to give the shading effect.
You can make this effect as subtle or over-the-top (cheesy) as you like, it's up to you.

  • 6.
  • Here all I did was add a Drop Shadow to the layer effects for the triangle piece of paper.
After doing that, you want to right-click on the layer effect icon for this layer in the layers palette. From the menu choose, CREATE LAYER

  • 7.
  • Now, holding down CTRL, goto the layers palette and click on the layer for the lower sheet of paper. This will give you a selection in the shape of that layer.
Now, with the Drop Shadow layer targeted, goto the layers palette and click on the icon for ADD LAYER MASK. This hides the drop shadow around the edges of the paper
And that's it. At least for this lesson. There are plenty of tweeks to do to perfect this, but those are the basics steps.
