Can anyone help? Is there any way to "fix" blown out white areas in a photograph? For example--portions of a wedding dress.

Manually, with the brush, stamp or healing tool. Or a combination of them. Overexposure results in a loss of data, therefore you really can't fix something that's not broken in the first place. Touching up a photo sometimes includes recreating something that's not there. |

If there is a little of data left, you might be able to do a lighting change in the brightness/contrast section called clarify, it is a function I have. Works very well.

Find source images of wedding dresses and amalgamate the results into your retouch, as has been said blown out areas represent a loss of data. It would help to see the photo if you are able to post it. Perhaps masking the dress and using multiply a few times may bring out hidden details (doubtful) |
