 Please excuse my ignorance... I'm trying my first project on Photoshop 4.0... I'm creating a graphic to be published. The graphic is simply 2 text letters. I am told I need to save the file as an ESP and "convert type to outline or curves." Can anyone tell me how to convert text to outline or curves? I've searched the program up and down and don't see any outline or curve options... I don't even see a "text" tool. Help, please???? Much thanks.

Play around and get to know Photoshop before starting any projects. If you can't find the text tool (T), you're simply not ready.

Photoshop isn't a vector based application, you'd need to use Illustrator or Freehand or Corel Draw to do that. And the text tool is the button with the T on it.
