Hi A friend of mine gave me an old photo of his to touch up - unfortunately he saved it as a gif and doesn't have the original and so some colour info has been lose. Is there a good way to regain/calculate that lost colour information? I'm using Adobe CS, thanks. |

I don't believe that - there must be some way - if not regain then at least touch up to make it look like no colour is lost.

You can't "regain" color information that has been lost in compression of a GIF. That's why the file size is so small, because that data has been removed from the file. There is no "undelete" function. You could definitely improve the quality of the photo by touching up certain areas to fake it, but there is no magical button that will solve the problem for you. But we can't really be of any more help to you unless you post the picture.

Yeah, that is what I planned, I would do it for you since it probably wouldn't take that long. |

I need my friends permission before I post the picture up, since it's not mine and it's a family photo.. I know about gifs - that's nothing new to me, but I think I wasn't so clear in my original post - by regain what I really meant was "touching up certain areas to fake it", and I do realise there's no magic button (I've been using photoshop for a while - thought I'd post here for advice before I go ahead) Thanks so far. Thanks for the gesture, but I don't like leaving it to others to do my photoshop stuff Thanks a lot though - very kind of you. |

Well, you could try using a tutorial for touching up black and white photos. http://www.worth1000.com/tutorial.asp?sid=161018 |
