Please help

I'm new to all this imaging stuff as you'll probably guess, well, I,m trying to make my own novelty notes for my kids ( I,m sure you've all seen them by now) but I,m having trouble getting the watermark part of the note right. I can insert a picture but thats not good enough for them ... they want them like the ones they've seen around where the pic in the watermark part is sort of transparent & similar colours to the rest of the note. I've tried & tried but cannot work out how to do it ... can anyone please please please advise me .... Thanks

I don't know if only lowering the opacity would work, but you're probably looking for something else.

Firstly, thanks for the welcome ....... i tried the tutorial but dont seem to have the glass filter .... can someone please tell me how to post a pic on here & I can show exactly what I am trying to do .... thanks
