How do i get a smooth line from a rough scanned in drawing. I do a lot of coloring book stuff and I find myself slowly redoing the lines to get a consistant weight. Or I actually ink them the old fashioned way and then sacn them in and clean them up, I am at my wits end. Do I do this in Illustrator, (which I have but would not know how to do this), or is there a photoshop way? thanks |

Scan them at a higher resolution.

First, scan the drawings as grayscale, or convert your 1-bit line art scan to grayscale. I always scan line drawings at a minimum of 600 p.p.i. • Apply a little Gaussian Blur. How much will depend on your scan resolution. • Open up your Levels dialogue (Command/CTRL-L) and work those sliders until you sharpen up the line edges and get the line thickness you're happy with. Don't forget to clean up the background, Start with the Block Eraser, and delete any really bad, big junk. Then work on getting rid of any haze or stray smudges or dirt marks. A lot of this can be done using Selective Color adjustments. When you have the Selective Color dialogue open, choose Whites from the drop-down menu, make sure the "Absolute" button is activated and pull all the sliders fully to the left. You may have to do this twice, but while you're doing it pay attention that some of your thin lines don't get thinner than you want them. Finish cleaning up, again, with the Eraser Tools. |
