Problem With Layers !

Brand spankin new to the forums, sorry no introduction, but i've been stuck on a problem and its DRIVING ME NUTS!! Hopefully you guys can help!

Photoshop has been working fine, everything (as far as I know) is working normal. But lately whenever I have selected a layer, and tried using the MOVE tool, the selected layer ALWAYS changes to either the background, or the layer nearest the bottom.

for instance, I could have a pic of a bike, and then If I tried to add text over, everything would be fine. BUT WHEN I TRIED TO MOVE THE SELECTED TEXT, THE PROGRAM SWITCHES TO THE BIKE LAYER, AND STARTS MOVING THE BIKE, leaving the text just sitting there. as far as I know, move tool is the only one this happens with.

HELP PLEASE!! It's delaying projects and driving me crazy! i cant move anything!

Click on the move tool from the toolbox (or press V). Now look under the menu for options for the move tool. Uncheck the 'Auto Select Layer' checkbox.
