make a wire?

Well, first i would like to say that im a new guy in this forum so forgive me if i do anything wrong.

I need to make a wire that wraps around a globe. I have tried different ways to do this but it does not look good at all.

There is an old one that someone else made on the website http://www.extensiontech.com

But im looking to make kind of a braided cord/wire that wraps around the globe.

Can i make that in photoshop? or do i need to learn 3dstudio max?

maybe not what you are after. With this tut, with your first brush stroke, you can make any shape you want. A bit of work, trial and error and it could look ok I think.
But for ease and more custom configuration, 3dstudiomax would be ideal :(
