I'm trying to create a transparent background for a jpg - can anyone help? I have a scanned graphic that is going on a web page and I don't want the white background. When I create the image with a transparent background as soon as I save it loses the transparency. Any help with be much appreciated. PJ |

JPGs don't support transparency. Use either the GIF or PNG format.

Go into ImageReady (Ctrl+Shift+M) Now look in the upper right area, and look for the Optimize tab. If you can't find it, go to Window->Optimize Once there, select any GIF preset there. You can add up to 256 colors if you need that many. And you can set the dither there also. When you have optimized it to your liking, go to File->Save Optimized As... |

GIF's have a binary transparency function, it's either transparent or visible. PNG's have alpha transparency so can be defined as %. PNG's are still not properly implemented in many browsers (with the death of the GIF we will have to see what will be adopted by the people who have to pay the licences;)) Don't forget to choose your matte colour wisely if you choose GIF. Can also save as a GIF in PS by choosing Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S |
