Hello, I've really haven't had a need to use the color replacement tool up until now. My confusion lies in options for the color replacement tool. The "Sampling" options [continuous, once, background swatch] is no problem, I understand how they are used. The "Limits" options [discontiguous, contiguous, find edges], I see no purpose served. I tried each and see no apparent difference. The book/photoshop help does not really make it to clear. Can someone please explain the "limits" with some examples? Thank you Fess |

The limits function is designed for different types of pictures. Sometimes when you are replacing the background on a pic of a sheer fabric then dis contigous works best because it will travel into the fabric and femove the color there too. when you are removing the color from an area that has decent contrast but similar colors then contiguous will just replace the colors in direct contact to the point you clicked. when you have an area that doesn't have so much contrast that is when you would generally use find edges, the computer tries to figure out where the edges of the foreground subject are and just fill in the background. At least that is the way it is supposed to work, sometimes I doubt the validity of this argument. I've seen it work horribly wrong in some cases. Good luck, and I'm sorry I don't have any pictographic examples. |

crazy_camel.. Thanks for the url. I'll check it out. Couple days ago, I was over here: http://www.photoshopuser.com/pscs/pb-replacement.html Kinda helped but still confused about the limits, becasue they don't always work how their "suppose" to.... CryptoManiac Yes.......very agreeable on this observation. The tool is confusing because when I "mix" the sampling & limits options, don't always get what's expected. Appreciate your explaination.... Regards Fess |

I could be wrong here, but I'm guessing that the eyedropper settings could have something to do with 'what' gets coloured when Contiguous is selected. Try setting eyedropper tool to point sample, or 5X5 average and see if results are more predictable. (I am on other puter tomorrow, so I can give CS a workout, and try this tool out.) |
