I have a PSD that I have simplified to one color (black on a transparent background), is there a way for me to convert this into a vector?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: oops, posted in the wrong section.

you could try selecting that color with the magic wand tool and then converting the selection to an outline, or vector. you could also trace that color in illustrator with the auto trace tool. either way, your vector won't be as detailed as your original pixel image.

well - I'd select the black thing and then "make work path" and then smooth that out - add points/details ...stuff. Is it really complex?

Thanks a million.

I'm working on some stencils for spray paint.

I'll post in the forum when they're finished.

how do you go about converting the selection to an outline? Or to a work path? I can't find it anywhere.

Make a work path and then export paths to Illustrator. If you have Illustrator, this can work pretty well, pending on the complexity.

Make a selection and then right click within the selection and choose 'convert to work path'. Select your pen tools and tidy up the results. A tolerance of .5 will give the most anchors and be closer to the picture, but will need more tidying up as a result.

Shameless plug: There is an action that Mathias Vejerlev develooped out one of my ideas that might help you in this task: it will add a dodge/burn layer to adjust the image before its vectorization: http://www.96ppi.net/ddt_vectorizer.zip
More info about the action:
