Blend If ????

Hello,

I've got a question about the "Blending Sliders" option via Layer>LayerStyles>Blending Options

I understand the purpose of these sliders already.

But, I alway used them with "Blend If:" set to Grey.

I was doing P.40 in Photoshop Most Wanted 2, it instructed to use "Blend If: Red.

I don't see absolutely any difference in the effect buy using red instead of gray.

Can someone explain using red as oppose to gray & what purpose it serves?

If you are useing a background or layer that is predimonantly one color, then you can use the blend if sliders to drop away that color.

Say you have a picture of a white object on a red background, you can use blend if red to drop away the red background instead of masking.

Spectre, the reason I make a post multiple times in different forums is becasue I find I get a great varity of answers in regards to the question. This really helps my learning & to better understand the solution.
