Hey. I'm making an interface for my new site at the moment. The background is just a greyish scanline background and i want to be able to see the background through the interface's window, which is tinted in a colo (doesn't really matter). Anyway, i have to be able to see through the screen and see the scanlines (and the corner of a graphic). How can i do this without making the interface a part of the background itself and keeping the transparent gif? Ahhh!

hmmm... I don't think tinted transparency is a possibility in gif. I think it only handles matte transparency (one color at 100% see-through) as far as the browser in concerned. If otherwise, though, I'd be pleased to know how to do it. A budget fix, obviously, is just to do the composited art in pshop ahead of time. Either that or make the area completely transparent, forgetting about the geen tint... --Tim A. |

yeah thanx. It's just that i saw it on a website earlier on and i've forgotten how it's done. I've had a bash at it though for my brand new refurbished site by just doing it as a background. It looks okay actually. It's just that the writing comes up before the picture loads, which is REALLY bad but it's okay. Unless you know a bit of JS to stop it from loading until the background is loaded. (i have Dreamweaver 3 by the way, just in case). here it is! Thanx again

Just a note: after looking at your page it looks as if you'd do best with a flash page, judging by the style of it. Either that or build your interlaced image as a table, maybe with an iframe in the middle, so the text can scroll in it. Just a thought. --Tim A. |

Thanx! Actually, i'm making a flash version of the site also, this is for the people without it. By the way, do you (or anyone) know, in flash, how you make the movie stop after it's been played already? I've tried and tried it but it won't work! It's just so could make buttons in flash which appear after the movie finishes. Thanx again
